Whatever Happened With … ?

Last year, a small group of us gathered to explore with some shared questions. Those in our merry little determined band included Shirley Helberg, Shari Maloney, Craig Cody, and Pastor Tim Sutton. Examples of the kinds of questions that we were asking included:

• What’s the “big picture” for our church?
• Where’s our church going?
• What can our church become?

We started with a process of interviews designed to discover strengths, passions, and values while appreciating the best of our church. From all of your responses to our questions, we next worked to identify patterns and themes. From this work, we crafted a Mission Statement, one that we hope you have seen springing up in the life of the church:

“Osakis Presbyterian is a community of faith. We are called to follow Jesus Christ. Christ is recognized among us in worship, fellowship, study, and service.”

We then moved on to draw up four Value Statements of what is important to our congregation. Based on all of this analysis, we drafted what we thought would be seven great Guideposts, or aids in decision making in the life of our church. Finally, we came up with a bold statement of ideal possibilities. We call this a “Provocative Proposal”.

As we move through the next couple of months, we would like to review and discuss with the congregation, in multiple ways, all of this and to solicit your feedback and support in helping our church live up to its potential. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact Shirley, Shari, Craig, or Tim.
